South Korea breaks the duopoly of the 40 biggest markets

With no price tag, the RTX 4090 or the MacBook 16 M5 Max wins in 39 of dopamine's 40 biggest markets. Only South Korea trades both for a facial toner worth about $7, roughly 1,450 times cheaper than the RTX 4090.

Take away the price tag, and almost the entire world wants the same thing. Across the dopamine store's 40 biggest markets by order count, the RTX 4090 graphics card is the top product in 33 countries, and the MacBook 16 M5 Max leads in 6 more. Only one market breaks the pattern: in South Korea, the most ordered item is a Korean facial toner worth about $7, sitting in the very ranking where the RTX 4090 costs roughly 1,450 times more and the MacBook 16 M5 Max costs roughly 1,900 times more.

The duopoly across the 40 biggest markets

Country is the order's destino->>'pais' field, meaning where the fictional delivery lands, not the site's language: that is why Malaysia shows 1,205 orders even though the Malay-language version of the site (locale ms) closed only 27 orders in the same window: 97.6% of those orders went out on the English-language site. Top product is the highest count of order line items carrying that product ID, across the 40 biggest markets. Among those 40, the RTX 4090 leads in 33, the MacBook 16 M5 Max leads in 6 (Malaysia, Mexico, Hong Kong, Chile, Iran, Belgium), and only South Korea escapes both. All four products in this ranking already existed in the catalog before the July 2026 expansion, so this is not a new-product effect.

The table shows the pattern before the exception. The United States and Brazil, the two biggest markets by volume, order the RTX 4090 at a similar share (16.5% and 17.2% of each country's orders), despite entirely different currencies and time zones. Taiwan is the sharpest version of the pattern, with the same card making up 25% of everything the country orders. And Malaysia lands in 3rd place overall, ahead of the United Kingdom and Germany, even though the site's Malay translation closed only 27 orders in the same period: 97.6% of Malaysia's 1,205 orders shipped out on the English-language site.

The toner that beat the graphics card

In South Korea, 34 of 197 orders (17.3%) are for the Round Lab Dokdo Facial Toner, and it won outright. The toner costs roughly $7, against a graphics card that costs about 1,450 times more and a laptop that costs about 1,900 times more: the cheapest item in the whole ranking beat the two most expensive ones, in a store where nobody pays for any of the three. And it is not one shopper padding the count. Those 34 toner orders came from 32 different email addresses, with a single repeat from the same person in the same session, 4 minutes apart, inside a total of 175 distinct emails across South Korea's 197 orders.

What the map does not prove

The map shows what each country orders most, not why South Korea breaks from the rest. It could be pride in a local K-beauty brand. It could be the low price making the item easier to pick out of a catalog with thousands of products. It could be something the order data alone does not capture. The sample size is worth flagging too: 197 orders is small next to the thousands from the United States or Brazil, so the result could shift as more orders come in, even though it already looks solid today, with 32 distinct emails rather than one buyer inflating the total.

Winning outright is rare here: the 2nd most ordered product across the 40 countries is the Pulse BluePC gaming PC (Intel i9, RTX 5070 Ti) in 12 of them, and a beauty item (a Dyson hair dryer or a centella asiatica facial cream) shows up among the top 2 in Hong Kong, Peru and Sweden, without taking first place in any of the three. South Korea is the only one of the 40 where beauty actually wins outright.

Take away the price, and almost the entire world wants the same RTX 4090 or the same MacBook. South Korea trades both for a toner worth about $7, and the dopamine still arrives in full.

It still costs nobody anything. The only thing that changes by country is what people imagine would be worth buying, if it were.
